Healthy Snack Ideas That Will Not Affect Your Waistline
Have you noticed how most people have begun to associate the word “snacks” with a bad, unhealthy habit? Probably even you. Why is that? Well, because of what most people snack, I guess. Chocolate doughnuts, nachos with cheese, French fries, bacon dipped in just about anything… Got cravings yet?
Well, stop right there. You know all too well - this delicious food is unhealthy and fattening, especially when you’re eating mindlessly in front of the TV every other night. But you somehow can’t enjoy your TV shows without snacks, right? Well, instead of hating yourself the morning after, why not choose a healthier snack?
Cucumber and tuna cups
Sounds weird right? But it’s a healthy snack that you can eat at any time. Cucumbers are rich in antioxidants, vitamin C, beta carotene, potassium and fiber, so they help in protecting the brain, reduce the risk of cancer, reduce the effects of stress and improve digestion. They also give you fresh breath. Cucumbers contain very little calories, but they give the organism a feeling of fullness, which makes them the perfect snack. And tuna is rich in vitamin D, choline, potassium, iodine, vitamin B1, magnesium, vitamin B2 and omega 3, which are essential for your health and it’s low on calories as well.
Baked apple chips
Homemade baked apple chips is a healthy replacement for store bought potato chips. And it’s very easy to make. Cut the apples very thin about 1/16 of an inch. Arrange the slices on a baking sheet and sprinkle with cinnamon. Bake for an hour, flip slices, then bake for another hour. Once they are done, let them cool completely. Serve or store the apples in an airtight container and you have the perfect apple snack.
Hard boiled egg
Snacking is a habit, not a real need for food. But, sometimes people who are on a diet think that they feel the need to snack, when in fact they are hungry. When this is the case (and your diet allows you to eat them), one hard boiled egg is the ideal snack. It will give you the energy you need because it is rich in proteins that protect the heart and keep eyes and bones strong. Not to mention that making it doesn’t take much time. Mix it with green salad or eat it plain.
This may be against all that you’ve heard before, but the trail mix is actually a healthy snack that gives you energy. But be sure to make your own mix of almonds, walnuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds or any other kind of nuts, seeds or dried fruit you like. But be careful, you must not eat too much of this, as it may have negative effects on your health and your waistline. These tasty treats, although very healthy in small daily amounts, are full of proteins and calories. A few nuts or seeds of each kind is just enough for the day.
