The advantage about summer entertaining is that you can keep the menu simple, refreshing, using just a handful of ingredients. Whether it is a theme party or a simple get-together with friends, the following recipe ideas will make you the perfect host.

Choosing the right ingredients

There are many versions of pizza dough but we’ll cover only the ones for margarita. Not because that’s our favorite pizza but because the margarita is usually a good foundation for a pizza dough preparation.

Listed below are all the needed ingredients:

  • 2 cups warm water
  • 1 tablespoon dry Yeast
  • Flour
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • ½ tablespoon sugar
  • Warm milk
  • 1 egg, white

Mixing the ingredients

Step 1: In a large bowl pour warm water (about 110 degrees F) and add yeast. If you add the yeast after you added the flour it will not mix properly.

Step 2: Add flour, milk and a single egg, white and stir lightly.

Step 3: Add a single tablespoon of salt and a half tablespoon of sugar.

Step 4: Mix everything together with a wooden spoon until the dough is nice and soft for shaping a sphere. Make sure your dough is not sticky but smooth and elastic.

Resting the dough

Most famous pizza restaurants rest the dough for more than 24 hours which is a distinct advantage. This factor is crucial in obtaining the best pizza crust. Make sure to cover the dough with foil until it doubles the size and then put it in your refrigerator.

Shaping the dough

Using a rolling pin, pull the dough to the edges of the pan. It is wise to roll the dough for about 15 to 20 minutes before you want to start with the cooking. Make sure the dough is evenly thick at the end.

Cooking the dough

Your cooking time will determine the type of crust you’ll get. Less cooking time, the softer the crust will be, longer cooking time, harder the crust.

Cooking in oven

It’s very important to pre-heat your oven before you put the pizza dough. With a perfectly pre-heated oven it should not take more than 5 minutes for the dough to cook. Preheat the oven to 400°F or 200°C.

When you bake pizza in the oven you want to accomplish an evenly browned crust. Place the pizza in the middle portion of the oven to ensure the bottom of the crust gets done. The hotter the oven, the better the pizza is after all.

Cooking in wood-fire oven

If you are using a wood – fire oven, your pizza will be cooked a lot better. In order to heat up the wood fired pizza oven it takes 45 minutes to one hour for the smaller ones and one hour and a half for the larger ovens.

Cooking in wood – fire oven requires temperature of 750 – 650 degrees F and it takes only 3 to 4 minutes for the pizza dough to  be fully and perfectly cooked. This way of cooking will make your pizza crispy and delicious. Make sure you turn the pizza around so that it wouldn’t burn.

A little ancient secret

Italians from Sicily have been adding mash potatoes in the pizza dough for centuries. If you really want to give your pizza dough that special Italian taste try adding 2 mashed potatoes in the dough while mixing all ingredients together. It will make the crust very crunchy and crispy. Just in the right amounts to make your guest wonder where that taste comes from.
