Foods That Can Ease an Upset Belly

We all know the feeling of an upset stomach and how it blows, especially if you add pain, cramping or diarrhea to it. It will certainly make you feel uncomfortable, keeping you from doing your day-to-day tasks. In order to keep your tummy happy and preventing this from happening, there are certain things you can do. Having a lighter diet is one thing, but there are also several foods you can eat that actually help soothe your stomach.


Bananas have been used for generations to soothe bellies. The fruit is easily digestible and doesn't upset the stomach. It contains pectin, which helps firm bowel movements and also potassium, which works miracles on your stomach if you are dehydrated from diarrhea or vomiting.

White Rice

White rice, together with potatoes and oats, has an overall soothing effect, eases digestion and helps coat the lining of the stomach. Being a starchy food, rice does not sit on the stomach for a long time and does not stimulate acid reflux, which can also add up in a situation like this.


Crackers work in the same way as rice since they are easy to digest and have a soothing effect. Moreover, they are often recommended for women who have morning sickness.


Apples are an excellent source of pectin and are the perfect choice for when you have diarrhea and in a case of constipation. However, if you suffer from diarrhea you might want choose applesauce instead because cooked-down apples are much easier to digest.

Herbal Tea

Other than the soothing effect a warm cup of tea has, herbal teas without caffeine stimulate acid reflux and help ease down a troubled stomach. On the top of the list is chamomile because it can reduce inflammation, although any herbal tea will do the trick.
